I could go on and on about what an inexplicable experience a sunrise balloon ride in Cappadocia is, about how vertigo isn’t an issue because the ground gently falls away from you, about nearly touching trees, about floating in silence except for the gush of gas and flames and hot air, about heat on the back of your neck. I could. But I won’t.

These photos are amazing! Where exactly in Turkey are these cave homes/chapels and rock formations? How old are they? Wow.

These are in Cappadocia. It's obviously a special place for me. Some of the cave churches in the area date back to the 4th century. I have no idea how old the churchs and chapels were that I visited. For many centuries, people lived in caves. In the mid-20th century, the government moved most people out to new homes because the caves ere becoming dangerous. There are a few that are still inhabited, used for storage, stables and, with rising tourism, as hotels.
